What's under the veil?

MindArk is teasing us with mistirious picture and text.

Reports have surfaced of strange activity by Intercolonial Transport Authority (ITA) officials at an undisclosed space station. The image above, leaked from the space station's internal security matrix, shows an ITA inspector examining an unknown small-hulled spacecraft.

Attempts by station pilots and crew to gain more information about the mysterious vessel were met with gruff silence and a cordon by the ITA.

The lack of official information has led to wild speculation over what could be hidden beneath the veil.

The Core - Robot Mayhem 2

Due to failed missions to recover RX caches in recent days, the CDF has decided to adjust its mission parameters. Though the original link to the robot teleportation network discovered earlier this year was ultimately shut down by the robots, a second entrance has been discovered by CDF intelligence. With the help of Sgt. Quintana's Earth Shock Trooper unit, the CDF has seized several of the teleportation pods used by the robots during the assault on the cache excavation sites.

Using classified jammer technology, the CDF has been successful in disabling the self-destruct mechanisms on the teleportation pods, allowing EST scouts to once again enter The Core and secure the receiver stations.

Even with this tenuous foothold, CDF troop shortages prevent a full-scale push into The Core. Instead, hefty rewards have once again been offered by the CDF in exchange for recovery of Robot Data Storage Units, which CDF intel indicates may contain detailed information regarding the contents of the RX caches.

The DSU recovery effort will begin on Friday, November 28. Brave colonists wishing the enlist in the effort should report to Sgt. Quintana’s EST dropship located in Minopolis.

There are also reports of several powerful Warlock-class robot bosses inside The Core. Colonists are urged to be prepared for aggressive new offensive tactics from these augmented Warlocks.

Scoring

The following point system has been created to track the retrieval of Robot Data Storage Units (DSU):
Robot DSU Class 1 (1 point)
Robot DSU Class 2 (5 points)
Robot DSU Class 3 (10 points)
Robot DSU Class 4 (20 points)
Robot DSU Class 5 (50 points)
Robot DSU Class 6 (100 points)
Robot DSU Class 7 (500 points)
Robot DSU Class 8 (1000 points)
Robot DSU Class 9 (5000 points)

Your event score will be updated automatically each time one of the Data Storage Units is recovered.

Final event scores will be calculated based on hourly point averages to derive each participant's 16-hour normalized event score.

This scoring method removes the need for participants to track time spent in the instances (beyond meeting the 16-hour prize eligibility requirement, described below), removes the risk of participants being inadvertently disqualified from the event for time reasons, and allows all participants to hunt as much as desired in the Robot Mayhem instances without giving an unfair advantage to those who are able to hunt for many hours.

Rewards

The colonists accumulating the highest number of points during the event period will be awarded the following rewards by Earth Shock Trooper command:
1st Place - Omegaton Ranger Scope MKII
2nd Place - Omegaton Laser Sight MKII

Planet Arkadia Trading Cards - Alpha Core Edition FAQ

Planet Arkadia Trading Cards - Alpha Core Edition FAQ

Q: Is this like hearthstone?
A: No, these will be in game and have a purpose

Q: What are the stars on the cards?
A: The stars are to indicate how rare a card is. 1 star being common and 6 stars being rare.

Q: Images / Items / Mobs, what do they mean?
A: These are allocated to the card and design for each. There are many categories, it is just the pane at what is shared in that edition.

Q: What does Alpha Core Mean?
A: This is the edition of the card collection. There will be more to added in the future, each bringing with it a new opportunity.

These cards are a collectible, we will offer certain rewards if you collect them all, Sometime there might be trade for certain cards and finding the right combination and handing them in, might present a special item or give you the opportunity to participate in something.

Q: Will these cards clog up my inventory or will there be some sort of bp type book for them (and are they stackable - oh, and lootable)?
A: These cards will be stackable and lootable. There is no book for them atm, but I can tell you we are working to create one as this collection will be one of MANY.

Q: Are these real world or ingame purchases.
A: Yes, there will be real life sets available.

Q: Do they drop now?
A: They are lootable at the moment.

Q: Are these in any way related to the Compet app or not?
A: These cards have nothing to do with Compet Deeds.

Q: If there are real life cards, do you get a rl one by buying the in game one from a terminal? Also, does having a card give you a combat pet (comepet) associated with the card?
A: No, by obtaining them, you will not get a RL card. There are things to do to obtain the Real Set. Think of it like this, if you obtain the whole collection, there will be a trade offer made on the forum. So pay close attention.

Q: Where do I get these?
A: These cards are being released in the new update.

Q: I may be reading more then you mean, but let me ask anyhow.
Are the cards for two types of players, the 'collectors' and the 'participants', meaning those who want to get all 31 Alpha Core cards and put them away in the collectors-book versus those who will hand them in for a reward.
About the handing in: because you say 'finding the right combination' does that mean that also, for example 3x Nusul + 5x IFN Droid + 2x Togolossi + 1x Armoury might be traded in for an item?
The cards themselves look cool, not a fan of the Badger though, that one looks to me more like a toy-toll.
Would be fun to see what this all leads to.
And one last question: how common or rare are these cards going to be? 1 Star as easy as a mini and 6 Stars as rare as, well, what gives the notifications of the kind like 'Ardorj found a rare Sandiresh Alpha Core Tradingcard!' in chat?

A: To answer, yes, they are for both kinda of collectors.
With regards to the combinations, there will be a forum request / trade being done for certain cards at certain times. So it is a massive interaction trade.
and yes, there will be a message for the rare card.

Q: This all looks really promising and fun but need to ask if these items will be user bound?
A: As stated before, these cards are not user bound as that would defeat the purpose of trading - so to answer the question, No, they will not be user bound.

Q: Dylan can we make those trade cards poker cards so i can make some real money in this joint?
A: hahaha
Q: I still like the triple triad idea for this
A: There is so many things planned for those cards. Those cards have a trading purpose.
We will offer certain things for a complete collection of cards and once you trade the whole collection to us, we will give you a limited item that can only be bought during that time. But then again, if you hold on to your cards. There will be another set released. Bring in both sets and you will get a better item. Then there will be a third, and if you bring in that collection, it will be something even better and it will grow and grow. And the fun part is it is completely up to you. Cards will drop in all professions.

Q: Are certain cards going to be tied to certain professions?
A: Maybe xD
If my calculations are correct, which they usually are (Smirk) there is 3 cards that if sold to the right buyer can bring you about 2000 ped each.

Q: Is there any limit to how many sets you can collect up before handing them in to boost the reward?
A: There is no limit
Q: Items from cards will be (L) or Ul ?
A: Let me say this, We strive to release some nice UL items but we need to balance it.

Arkadia Official Dylan: Here is a quick question to you all. Just asnwer yes or no. Would you buy an Arkadia plushie if we make them? yes, a RL item. And one more question. Would you buy Arkadia Memrobilia?

Q: 3d printed models of guns, vehicles etc, replica & weapons or armor, and fashion clothes
A: You are reading our minds now. So just know this, it is in the pipeline, so there will be goodies in the near future.

Q: Is it possible to collect them and miss all opurtunities to trade them and be stuck with nothing even if you paid/looted 10k peds of cards?

A: Cards (Alpha Core being first series) will be around for a season. Once the season is finished, trade for prizes type promotions will finish (a new season will begin). At that time the cards are a collectible and you will be given an opportunity to complete your set (details to come later on how). Much of the events around the cards will be focused on who can get the collections first, although as Dylan pointed out, we'll also have mini events where a recipe of cards might win a prize.
The size in game is the same as the Treasure maps, so they do look great when placed on a coffee table etc.

Planet Arkadia New Creatures and IFN Recruitment Center

New Creature - Pandi

The IFN Science Department have discovered another new native species.

The IFN is just about done with the initial scientific tests to determine if they pose a serious threat to Arkadian colonists or if there isn't much to fear from them. For now the Science team urges everyone to approach the waters at the west of Sentosa with utmost care, as these creatures now referred to as "Pandi" seem to not enjoy company in their domain.
Expect to see them following next Version Update.

New Creature - Arkadian Hornet

Victorious Firebase have been invaded by a native insect. The IFN scientists have named it the Arkadian Hornet due to it's striking similarities to earths various hornet species.

Be warned! They have a nasty sting so come prepared.

Expect to see them following next Version Update.

RX Units swept in and stole several of the caches

CDF Announcement

RX Units have managed to seize the first caches excavated. As several of the mining platforms reported they were close to the target, the CDF dispatched elite teams to extract the caches. However, the robots seem to have intercepted the signal and met the CDF teams with a massive assault force at each point.

Taking advantage of the battle, small squads of RX Units swept in and stole several of the caches. Where they were unable to do so, they instead opted for destroying the technology, even going so far as to sacrifice themselves if required. That the RX continue to claim neutrality while interfering so blatantly in human-robot affairs is of course unacceptable. This destruction of CDF property is an open act of war, and we shall respond accordingly.

All RX units are now to be considered enemies of Calypso and the Federal Empire. Any assistance to or harboring of RX Units will be considered an act of treason. While the CDF currently has no knowledge about the location of the RX, scouts and satellites have been tasked with finding them. Any reports of their location will be made public to ensure they are swiftly hunted down.

Planet Arkadia Trading Card Collection

Next Version update in Entropia Universe will be huge.

I will just show you one of the many thing that will come.

Planet Arkadia Trading Card Collection.

How much money people put in Entropia Universe

How much money people put in Entropia Universe

If you wonder how much money people deposit to this game let’s make some calculations. I am not very rich but I can afford to deposit 100$ per month. The game is out for 10 years if I started depositing when the game started that makes 10 years by 12 months by 100$ = 12 000 USD. Not much, but there are people in rich countries like Sweden or Denmark for example.

With salary of 3000 – 4000 USD it is no problem to deposit 1000 USD per month and that makes such player holding 120 000 USD in Entropia Universe. And just 50 such players can buy every calypso land lot deed that was offered and gain control over every decision in the political system that will be introduced and also take all the CLD revenue or ¼ of what Planet Calypso is making as profit.

Sure not everybody deposit 1000 USD per month, but there are also players depositing more than that. I won’t be surprised if there are players with half a million USD invested in Entropia Universe in the form of multiple land areas and Calypso and/or Arkadia Underground deeds. And who can blame them. Investing money in Entropia Universe is more profitable and probably more secure than most of the banks in the world.

The extraordinary life of John Doe

I woke up and walk the dog at 6:30 AM. I never have enough sleep. I eat fruit as part of my breakfast. Usually I don’t eat any breakfast at all. I go to work by 9:00 AM. I work for 8 hours. Then I get home and work for few more hours. And because I do this I will play the game I want to play. I will own land area that cost more than my car. I will fly mothership in space risking losing my 2 month salary in form of animal oils. I will shoot a gun that cost me 10 $ per hour to shoot. My avatar will wear clothes that cost more than mine. I will live on the planet I want to live. I will craft with 10% success rate. I will mine with big ass amp. I will use mindforce. I WILL BUY A SPECIAL EDITION QUAD-WING INTERCEPTOR for 50 000 USD. I will play Real Cash Economy. I will make money playing video game.

Entropia Universe – MAN’S LAST STAND.

CLD price is too low

In one of my post I was concerned that the price of Arkadia Underground Deeds is too high and the payouts will decrease making the Calypso Land Deeds better and obvious choice for investment. And everything is still true. AUD are selling even for 10% less than their initial value.

The only thing left out of the equation is the time. With time the price of CLD is and will be going up slowly but surely. It was 130 USD at the time of AUD, now is around 140 USD. And some day it will hit 200$ per 1 CLD. And somewhere at that point investing in AUD is going to be better than investing in CLD. And it will all start to balance itself. When CLD price rise and with will (probably) the price of AUD will rise also.

So if I can change my statement from ‘AUD price is too high’ to ‘CLD price is too low’.

The price of CLD will be linked to price of everything in the game. Once the price gets too big to be good investment (and this will probably happen after 2-3 years) investors will move their peds to different opportunities like shops, land areas, trading commodities, slowly increasing the market value of everything in the game. Even haircuts and facemask. Until then happy hunting and hoard as much CLD as you can.

The speed of game evolution

The speed of game evolution

Games are developed and changed really slow if you ask the players but it is what it is. EVE Online decided to go for direct control of their ships after 10 years of not making it. But this is because they are desperate. What is important here is this post from 2011 almost 8-9 years after the game was ready and more than 10 years after the idea.

“Ever since the beginning of Entropia Universe, our grand idea has been a universe with planets surrounded by space. Now, this concept is finally taking form. Basically, this is the reintroduction of the space ships, but in a totally new setting, compared to pre-VU10. You'll be able to take a space ship and fly through space, travelling between all planets in Entropia Universe. Of course, space is not just traveling grounds, but the place for space battles, pirating, logistics, gaining good or bad karma and much, much more.”

What forms Calypso Land Deed payouts

What forms Calypso Land Deed payouts

I have read that few times but still forget if space generate CLD income. It turns out it does. Also "various fees" contribute to CLD payouts.

Q. How is the Planet Partner Gross Revenue calculated?
A. Planet Partner Gross Revenue is calculated and paid by MindArk to the Planet Partner, and includes avatar activity on Planet Calypso, along with the activity of Calypso avatars in Space and on other Entropia Universe planets. Avatar activity includes deterioration of items, as well as various other fees and avatar activities.

EBN Opinion Piece

By now, all colonists should be aware of the RX tech caches and how the CDF is planning to retrieve them. The question, however, is if we really should retrieve them – or rather destroy the caches and everything in them. Let me clarify my opinion.
The caches contain technology developed by the RX units. Thinking, though probably unfeeling, synthetic beings. It is thought to be advanced enough to turn the tide in our direction, or the robots' direction, depending on who gets them first. But do we really want technology that is apparently dangerous enough for the RX units to not only hide from robots and humans alike, but to decide not to use for themselves?
In the past few days, there has been a lot of speculation about the contents of the RX caches. Both the CDF and RDI report having no knowledge about the contents, but why then are they so eager to retrieve them? The answer, obviously, is that they do know.
Harbingers. While the official CDF line is to deny knowledge, internal sources say that the robots obtained the technology needed to create these abominations from one cache. ONE. Imagine what a whole bunch of them could contain. Imagine what horrors could be unleashed upon our world, should the rest be opened.
Can we trust the Federal Empire, the Calypso Colonial Administration, the CDF, to keep this technology out of enemy hands? For that matter, can we trust them with it?

Space mining and transport coming to Entropia Universe

Finally change in space that will bring more people into it. So far I was flying through space just to visit another planet but what is mentioned in the last Developer Notes #10 - Galactic Transport for the upcoming Entropia Universe Version Update 15.1 (currently scheduled for early December), will change all that.

Most people are happy that removing of planet-specific auction sections and making possible to buy items from other planets via auction will improve the ingame economies of the smaller planet. I am happier about the part where new space cargo missions are mentioned. This will bring the game one step closer to games like Mass Effect and Star citizen. It will also increase the number of the people flying in space.

I am also thinking of becoming some sort of space mission runner or something. Interplanetary transporter if you wish. There is always the possibility to become space pirate, but first people will hate me and second it will require a lot more free time to camp for space victims and in this moment of time free time is not an option. Not to mention that I will have to work together with other pirates but how can you trust a pirate not to shoot you in the back.

At the end they mention resource gathering, yes I know it will probably take years before we see space mining but at least it is something we can hope and wait for. And there is a chance that it will be different from planetary mining.

New Creature on Planet Arkadia - Monura

Expect to see it in the next Version Update. And lets hope it is tamable becouse it looks cute.

Developer Notes #10 - Galactic Transport

Developer Notes #10 - Galactic Transport

In the upcoming Entropia Universe Version Update 15.1 (currently scheduled for early December), planet-specific auction sections will be removed. This change will result in a single unified auction, something that many participants have requested and something that MindArk believes will result in a more efficient and dynamic interplanetary economy.

After VU 15.1, buyers will have three options when winning an auction that was listed from a planet that differs from that of the buyer:

1.Pickup at Origin - Items won from auction will be placed into the buyer’s inventory on the planet of origin (the planet where the auction was created). Buyer must then travel to the planet of origin to retrieve the items from storage.
2.Normal Delivery - Items won from auction will be transported to the buyer’s storage at the buyer’s current location after a specified period of time (TBD, approximately 1-4 hours). This option will incur a small transport fee, based on the weight of the items to be transported.
3.Instant Delivery - Items won from auction will be transported immediately to the buyer’s storage at the buyer’s current location. This option will incur the same transport fee as Normal Delivery, along with an extra convenience fee.

The transport fees collected for the Normal and Instant Delivery options will be held in a special transport fee pool. In a subsequent Version Update, transport missions will be made available that can be claimed by spaceship pilots via a queue system that incorporates the available transport fee pool, pilot skills, time limitations, and ship cargo capacities.

Those missions will take the form of cargo boxes which must be delivered to a destination in return for a PED reward funded by the transport fee pool. Cargo boxes are at risk of being looted by other participants in cases where the transporting ship is defeated in space combat; the looted cargo boxes can then be delivered to the assigned destination by the looter to claim the original transport mission reward. Note that the cargo boxes will correspond to the value of the transport mission reward rather than the actual items traded via auction sales. In this way piracy of cargo boxes will not negatively impact interplanetary trade.

It will still be possible to transport goods and resources through space in the current manner, though changes will be made in upcoming Version Updates to address currently existing issues and loopholes that allow for risk-free transport of goods and materials through space.

MindArk believes that this new Galactic Transport system will result in increased activity and efficiency in the interplanetary market for goods and materials, along with more accurate and informative market history data that will benefit participants on all planets. It will also make for a much more exciting and engaging gameplay experience in space and pave the way for further development of space systems including combat, hunting, transport and resource gathering.

Becoming a Planet Partner

I believe this is new text on MindArk site informing future Planet Partners that their planet may fail :)

There is no text book definition of a Planet Partner. However, to successfully create and maintain a planet, a Planet Partner should have a long-term perspective, a creative mindset and a secure and stable economy for marketing, personnel and planet operations.

Each Planet Partner must have a unique concept to increase the diversity in Entropia Universe and must contribute with a new market, rather than just utilizing the existing end user base. Furthermore, there is no acceptance for concepts and content of gambling, a pornographic nature or any other concept that MindArk deems inappropriate or that is illegal.

Planet Partners with strong unique ideas, ability to bring in new customers and with sufficient funds for planet content production and marketing have a high probability for a quick return of investment.

Regarding the Success, or Failure, of Your Virtual Planet in the Entropia Universe.

MindArk is the platform provider supplying each planet partner the proven tools and systems to which allow them to build their own unique, individual, virtual planet inside the Entropia Universe.

The success or failure of your virtual world can depend on many factors. A few stand out as must have factors. The first is theme and game play. You must have a compelling story and theme which attracts and engages the interest of YOUR registered users. Without this major component the success of your planet is in serious jeopardy. Imagine a movie with little to no plot. Imagine an unimaginative book written with poor grammar. They are both like a virtual world without a compelling storyline and gameplay. You must be able to attract and engage your users.

As with any other business, competent staff, management and leadership are needed to create and run a successful company. This is as true for Planet Partners as it is everywhere else. Core competencies includes graphic design teams, game design competency, public relations and mores. You will also need the financial security and stability to sustain the company before release, while you create your unique virtual world in the Entropia Universe.

Although it may be tempting to believe that you will succeed in bringing the entire pre-existing population of the Entropia Universe to your planet that is not the goal, nor will it happen. Although there is a big advantage to creating your virtual world inside an already thriving universe your ultimate success will depend completely upon your ability to bring new players to your offering. You must have a strong marketing plan with a substantial budget to cover a successful, long term marketing plan.

Once you have made it to launch you will need a competent "live team" to run the day to day Planet operations including ongoing storyline, content upgrades, game play, community management, and ongoing marketing.

Just like any other venture anywhere else, the success of your virtual planet in the Entropia Universe requires that YOU have these things in place and competently running. Without these minimum steps in place your virtual empire may not succeed. So, be sure you have these pieces solidly in place and you’ll be on the right road to success.
