Mission Creature Spawns Update

To assist Calypso participants wishing to complete Iron Challenge missions before the mission rewards rebalancing takes effect, the following temporary creature spawns have been created and will be active until October 9, 2012:

Developer Notes #5

One area where we have received lots of feedback concerns the item upgrade system. Most of the feedback and questions received by the MindArk support department relate to the speed at which items gain new tier intervals, and the cost of raising an item to the next tier level. We hope to address those concerns in this developers note article.

Tier Speed
Within the current system, tier progress is taking much longer than intended, in some cases by a large factor. The MindArk dev team has been testing new parameters for this system which will increase the speed at which unlimited items gain tiers, especially at higher tier levels.

Due to the delicate nature of the tier upgrade system, adjustments must be made carefully and tested thoroughly. Our goal is to complete such testing and implement the adjusted tier progress rates before the end of this year.

Tier Cost
We are also analysing the cost to increase the tier level of various items, and ensure that such costs are balanced and reasonable. Adjustments to the cost of tiering are even more delicate than those related to tier speed, and thus will require a longer period of testing before changes can be implemented.

AR Universe AB becomes Planet Calypso AB

The legal name of the company that runs Planet Calypso has been changed from “AR Universe AB” to “Planet Calypso AB” as of September 20, 2012.

This enables the company to focus all branding efforts on the Planet Calypso brand.

Rebalanced Mission Rewards Update

Sorry for the long delay with posting this but it'sfinally done and here they are, all the new rewards for all the Calypso Iron style missions.

As you will see all attributes have been replaced with "Attribute Tokens" these can be saved and redeemed at a later time if the player wants to reach a higher attribute level before claiming the attributes, 100 tokens equals 1 full point of an attribute.
All Nova Fragments have also been removed.

Attributes tokens now have a "cost" and lowers the skillvalue that can be given out for the mission based on how many attribute tokens are given out.
However, I included the option in all missions to choose whether you want "skills and attributes" or "skills only". When choosing "skills only" the value is close to what it was before but can vary
depending on what monster and skill it is. You can also choose any combination of the different skills if you want a bit of everything rather than just a big chunk of one skill.

There is a set max amount of how many of each Attribute Token that can be given out, many of them are handed rewarded in the old missions, but I have saved a bunch of them (moved from the low level mobs mainly) so there are quite a few Attribute Tokens left that can be given in future missions to.

The rewards are now based on all parameters of a monster rather than just the hit points. This means that monsters with higher damage, regen, aggression, attack speed etc now give better rewards compared
to monsters with just high hit points, however hit points is still the biggest factor. This means that a monster like Araneatrox will give a better reward than Atrox, if they had same hit points.

The different skills have also been placed in different categories based on how useful they are, their markup, how rare they are etc. This means that in some cases a skill can have been moved to a cheaper
or a more expensive category resulting in a larger difference between the old reward for a mission and the new one.

You will also notice that it is in particular the "Seasonal missions" like Eomon, Longtooth and Steelbird that have been nerfed the most. They had very very high rewards even with the old formula due to
being "Special missions", however all missions now have to follow the same guidelines or we would soon end up with only "Seasonal missions".

I also want to ask your opinion on changing the health of the Argonaut Scout 250 to 350, this has been wrong since day 1 of the game I think. It affects the reward of the Bronze challenge since it's based
on the lowest maturity you can kill in the mission making it close to the same as if it had been Argonaut young. This would increase the reward you see on the Argonaut Bronze challenge here by about 25%.

Feel free to come with constructive feedback, and point out if there's some mission that seems completely crazy. These changes are not 100% final yet, there is still some time and in some cases I might be able to do something about it.

The Shinkiba/Daikiba Iron challenge has been changed so higher maturities give more points, this was done because there is such a big difference between the youngs and the rest and since it's unlikely that
someone would kill only youngs it made the reward very unfair. Killing youngs is however still the most efficient way to do it, but it can be done faster by killing bigger ones (Kirakiba also counts).

EDIT: The rewards are now also included in the mission information on all missions.

Prize Winner Determination

In order to avoid any confusion, a detailed description of the method that will be used to determine the winners of this event is provided below. We believe this event structure gives participants an incentive to hunt as much as possible during the event period, while also allowing those without so much time to have a fair chance of winning a prize in the event.

During the week after the end of the event, MindArk’s database engineers will generate a list of the top loots on the Feffoid Guard creature during the announced event times (between 00:01 UTC Monday, September 24 - 23:59 UTC Sunday September 30).

This list of highest loots will then be sorted in descending order (largest loot to smallest), providing a highest single loot list for the event. This shall shall be called the FRL-Final Results List.

Prizes will then be determined based on positions on the FRL, with the following limitations: no avatar may win more than one prize, and prizes will be selected in descending order (1st prize selected first, 2nd prize selected second, and so on). This will ensure that each avatar can only win a single prize. Any lower FRL positions for an avatar that wins a prize will be removed, resulting in all entries lower on theFRL list moving up one position.

To explain it another way: Avatars may end up with several entries on the FRL, giving them a better chance of winning one of the various prizes available. However, once an avatar has been selected for a prize, all of the that avatar’s entries will be removed from the FRL.

Auction of Items from Banned Avatar

Some time ago, MindArk permanently suspended an avatar account due to the use of third-party programs that provided an unfair advantage over honest participants. After a thorough investigation and extended correspondence with the participant, it has been decided that the account will remain permanently suspended. The participant has accepted MindArk’s decision in this case.

Among MindArk’s highest priorities for Entropia Universe are account security and the integrity and fairness of the real-cash economy. When a participant is suspected of (found to) violating that integrity or security MindArk takes it very seriously. In such cases of abuse, penalties can range from a warning from our Support team for minor offenses, to permanent account termination for more serious violations.

In cases of permanent account termination, access to the avatar account is blocked, resulting in all items currently in the avatar’s inventory and storage becoming frozen. Once the final investigation is completed and a requisite amount of time has transpired, those frozen items may, at the sole discretion of MindArk, be reintroduced into the Entropia Universe and made available to other participants.

The time has now come to reintroduce the virtual items from the suspended avatar’s account back into Entropia Universe, via the auction.

Consequently, starting next week on Monday, the 24th of September, the process of auctioning those items will begin. All items will be listed on auction for seven days, with no buyout and a start bid of 1 PED. The only exception to this are the four Land Area deeds, which will be placed on auction for seven days with no buyout and a start bid of 50000 PED.

Developer Notes #4

In this Developer Notes article, we would like to share some information to address issues raised by some of our participants regarding MindArk’s recent and upcoming marketing efforts.

Much of this information was shared with the Entropia Universe community at the beginning of the year in the State of the Universe Address, but it appears that many participants either missed that announcement, or have forgotten about MindArk’s marketing plans for 2012.

Online Campaign
Several months ago, MindArk began an online ad campaign to promote Entropia Universe. In parallel, AR Universe began a campaign to promote Planet Calypso. The initial stages of the campaigns were fairly limited in scope and daily budget, in order to accumulate useful ad targeting and performance data in terms of the effectiveness of these ads in generating new accounts.

In late July, MindArk and Planet Arkadia also launched a campaign for Planet Arkadia, orchestrated by MindArk. These campaigns are an ongoing effort, and budgets are gradually being increased as the targeting effectiveness and account conversion rate improves.

Marketing & New Player Experience
One major factor in MindArk's marketing budget decision-making process has been the implementation of an improved New Player Experience (NPE). It seemed prudent to limit our marketing spending during the early part of 2012 until the improved NPE was implemented and refined. Much of our marketing efforts thus far in 2012 have had the primary goal of gathering data, measuring effectiveness and refining our marketing strategy. Now that the NPE has been implemented into Entropia Universe, we have solid plans to increase our online ad campaign budget throughout the rest of 2012 and beyond.

Promotion Video
MindArk has commissioned a professionally produced promotional video that is currently in production. Work on the video is progressing well, and two versions are planned - a short version that can be used as an online video advertisement, along with a longer version that gives a more detailed overview of Entropia Universe and which can be used on official EU websites and at gaming conventions. Both versions will feature a professional actress taking up the role of Sayah King (famous from the original Project Entropia promotional video). The videos will also feature footage from the new avatar system that the MindArk development team is currently hard at work completing, and which has an ETA of early November.

Calypso Land Deed Proceeds
Some of the feedback we have received indicates a (mistaken) belief that the entirety of the proceeds from the Calypso Land Deed sales would be used exclusively for marketing. This belief is inaccurate. What MindArk stated regarding how the CLD proceeds would be used is the following, explained in an earlier Buzz article with detailed information about Calypso Land Deeds-

  • Q. How will the proceeds of the Land Lot deeds be used by MindArk?
  • A. The proceeds from the Land Lot deeds will help to finance a substantial Entropia Universe marketing campaign, along with further development of Entropia Universe and Planet Calypso.

Note that this statement also includes ‘further development of Entropia Universe and Planet Calypso’. It is also important to realize that development and marketing go hand-in-hand. As we described above, improving our New Player Experience was as much an investment in our marketing strategy as anything else.

Affiliate Program
MindArk is in the early stages of designing a comprehensive affiliate program that will allow existing EU participants to get rewarded for helping to expand the Entropia Universe user base. We hope to launch that program in the first quarter of 2013. More details will be shared once the initial design of the affiliate program becomes more certain.

New Planet Calypso Website
A brand new Planet Calypso website has been in development for several months, and is expected to be launched by the end of this month. The new website will help MindArk and Planet Calypso leverage the most value from their marketing spending, and will provide a much enhanced user experience for new visitors and existing participants alike.

We hope that the efforts in progress and plans for future marketing efforts that we have shared in this Developer Notes article provide our paricipants with a more positive outlook for the future health and growth of Entropia Universe, and help to dispel some of the misunderstandings that have arisen of late.

  • Ashi - 83009, 77828
These spawns will be added on Sept. 7 to give colonists time to scout the locations and refine their hunting strategy.

To be eligible to win a prize, your account must be updated with accurate contact information, including proper name, street address & postal code, and email address.

Prize Winner Determination
In order to avoid any confusion, a detailed description of the method that will be used to determine the winners of this event is provided below. We believe this event structure gives participants an incentive to hunt as much as possible during the event period, while also allowing those without so much time to have a fair chance of winning a prize in the event.

During the week after the end of the event, MindArk’s database engineers will generate a list of the top loots on the Feffoid Guard creature during the announced event times (between 00:01 UTC Monday, September 10 - 23:59 UTC Sunday September 16).

This list of highest loots will then be sorted in descending order (largest loot to smallest), providing a highest single loot list for the event. This shall shall be called the FRL-Final Results List.

Prizes will then be determined based on positions on the FRL, with the following limitations: no avatar may win more than one prize, and prizes will be selected in descending order (1st prize selected first, 2nd prize selected second, and so on). This will ensure that each avatar can only win a single prize. Any lower FRL positions for an avatar that wins a prize will be removed, resulting in all entries lower on the FRL list moving up one position.

To explain it another way: Avatars may end up with several entries on the FRL, giving them a better chance of winning one of the various prizes available. However, once an avatar has been selected for a prize, all of the that avatar’s entries will be removed from the FRL.
